Save Our School SJKT Seaport Movement (SOSS)
SJKT Seaport, Jalan SS 7/4, 47301 Kelana Jaya
PRESS STATEMENT – DATE 25TH JAN 2014
Vanakam to all, w`e would like take this opportunity thank all those supported and given moral support to this school. We have been operating fully in the building for since 15th January 2014 and we have now 28 students which is an increase of 4 students and 6 volunteer teachers since the start of the struggle to keep the school at original site.
We have few update to be shared to all.
1. On 23th Jan 2014 the HM of new SJKT Seaport in SS 6, “chased” the parents whom called to get their children rights in getting RM 100 of Federal govt Education Aid. Every students were auto enroll to the school enrollment from the previous year unless his request transfer is approved by PPD and JPN. We see this as another abusive of power and further discriminating the students with denial of their rights.
A police report is made in Balai Polis Kelana Jaya against the HM, PPD PJ and JPN for further denying the rights of the students and not inline with the objective of the PM is giving away the Education Aids to the nationwide students regardless of type of school.
2. On 23th Jan 2014, we read that Dato Hj Mahmud, the Director of Education JPN Selangor have issue statement in 23th Jan 2014 of TheStar online as “ Selangor Education Department director Datuk Mahmud Karim said that if parents still refused to register their children at the new school building, their children could be expelled from the school”. This statement got attention and was kept repeated in Bernama news and Radio News which we believe another form of threat and depression tactic by the JPN and MOE to cover their error in relocating school.
We see another dual standard in this as the nation famous struggle of SJKC Damansara which prolonged from 2001 till 2008 but none of the students were expelled nor denied right to seat for UPSR exam. So why threatening the Tamil school students ? Arent these students Malaysian too? Why double standard between SJKC and SJKT students ? We urge the JPN and MOE to stop issuing threaten statement and come together to resolve the matter.
3. On 23th Jan 2014, we had received a letter from the Menteri Besar of Selangor Office. Attachment is given to all. We like to thank the MB of Selangor Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim for acknowledging the struggle and support the request to gazette the land for SJKT Seaport in SS7/4. It is another milestone victory to movement and the students specifically to hear a positive signal from the MB office. We have given the MB and all the Selangor state EXCOs the letter on 13th Jan 2014 of requesting the gazette of current site in SS7 and attached the letter to PKNS on the same matter for their action.
The prompt reply from MB’s Chief Private Secretary, Hj Mohamad Yasid bin Bidin from MB of Selangor Office in requesting the District Officer of Petaling to take necessary action in gazzeting the land is inline with state government pledge to gazette all Tamil school land in 2008. We like to thank the Menteri Besar of Selangor for looking in this matter and view this as serious matter for the betterment of students here. This is an opportunity to the state government to undo the injustice done to the SJKT Seaport for the last 30 years when the PKNS then “robbed” the school land by digging a big monsoon drain between the school blocks and forcefully ask the school to relocate from their original site that they have been operating since 1920. The saga starts then to find the relocate land and till today after almost 30 years it is yet to be resolve.
4. We are gaining huge support from the local, Malaysian in general and international human rights movements. The Dong Zong, umbrella body of Chinese School Endowment Board has pledge to provide new chairs and tables to all students. KLSCAH had agreed to campaign for the struggle. Inline with that , we have planned to send a memorandum to SUHAKAM as the 28 students here were denied to gain access for proper education as per the requirement of National Education Policy. We have also gain support internationally and will hand over another memorandum to UNESCO via our reps in Europe next month. We have no choice to echo the struggle of the parents and children here as there is no formal discussion called by the MOE and its Minister in resolving this. YB Kamalanthan and YB Idris Jusoh are keep giving press statements but fail to see the parents to resolve the matter. YB Kamalanathan came to new school site but seems “lost way” to the old site but he claim it was so close. They keep diverting the issue as transport matter whereas the real demand was to sustain the existing of school in original site near the vicinity of Seaport community.
5. We will continue to operate the school and we urge the public to get the real information and issues from the SOSS or the parents and not from one sided main stream. This school has gone through massive injustice in last 30 years. We have shocking evidences how the land grab scandal took place right under the nose of state government and its agency PKNS way back in 1980s. We will produce that soon to public by next week Thursday.
Nandri to all.
Kannan Ramasamy Sagaran
Secretary Chairman
